Adding and managing your dogs

Build a profile for every dog, from registered name, number and microchip to breed, coat colour and photo, and mark it as breeding or retired.

Every record in Breedscape belongs to a dog, so your dogs are the heart of the app.

Adding a dog

Go to the Dogs tab and tap the add button. Only the name is required, so you can add a dog quickly and fill in the rest later.

  • Photo. Take one with the camera or pick one from your library. It's cropped to a square.
  • Name, sex and birth date.
  • Breed. Start typing for suggestions, or enter any breed you like.
  • Coat colour. Pick up to three colours from the swatches.
  • Coat pattern or markings. Choose one, such as brindle, merle or sable.
  • Microchip, registered name and registered number.
  • Useful info and description. Anything else worth keeping to hand.

Adding a photo needs a connection, because it's uploaded straight away. If you're offline, save the dog and add the photo later.

Status switches

Each dog has four switches you can turn on as its life changes:

  • Used for breeding
  • Retired
  • Passed away
  • Archived

These show as labels on the dog's page, so you can tell at a glance where each dog is.

Finding a dog

The Dogs tab groups your dogs by breed, with pups listed under their parents. Use the search box to find a dog by name. Archived dogs are kept in their own section at the bottom.

The dog's page

Tap a dog to see everything about it:

  • Its profile and status labels, and its litter if it's a pup.
  • Care due. Vaccinations, wormings and treatments that are coming up or overdue. See Health records and care due.
  • Its records, grouped into Health, Feeding, Breeding and Records.
  • PDF. Share or print the dog's full record. See Sharing a dog's record as a PDF.

Archive, don't delete

When a dog leaves your kennel, archive it rather than deleting it. An archived dog drops out of your lists and dashboard counts, but all its records are kept, and you can unarchive it at any time.

Deleting a dog is permanent, and the app will warn you before you do it.
